School Health Program
On 20 August 2023, Young Leader Collaboration for Global Health-Nepal (YLCGH-Nepal) visited the principal of Shree Bhanodaya Basic School, Siddhipur, Lalitpur, to initiate coordination and planning for a comprehensive School Health Program in collaboration with the school.
The planned program includes eye health checkups and blood grouping, along with measurement of students’ height and weight to assess Body Mass Index (BMI) and support health monitoring. Health education and health promotion activities will also be conducted to strengthen students’ awareness of healthy behaviors and preventive health practices.
As part of the broader school health approach, teacher training sessions will be conducted periodically on communicable and non-communicable diseases, as well as mental health, enabling teachers to play a stronger role in promoting health and identifying key health concerns within the school environment.
The program was developed based on findings from a needs assessment and workshop conducted on 5 September 2022. By building on identified school health needs and establishing continued collaboration with the school, YLCGH-Nepal aims to promote a healthier and more supportive learning environment for students and teachers.
