School Health Program: Substance Abuse Awareness

School Health Program: Substance Abuse Awareness

On 26 June 2025, Young Leaders Collaboration for Global Health-Nepal (YLCGH-Nepal) conducted a school-based awareness session at Shree Siddhi Mangal Secondary School, Siddhipur, Lalitpur, focusing on substance abuse and its impact on young people. The session aimed to strengthen students’ awareness of the physical, mental, and social consequences associated with substance use while creating an open and supportive environment for meaningful conversations. Students were encouraged to understand the importance of informed decision-making, recognize potential risks, and develop a stronger understanding of how substance abuse can affect individuals, families, and communities. The initiative also emphasized the importance of breaking stigma and promoting open dialogue around substance use. Through interactive discussions and health education, students were encouraged to become informed and responsible decision-makers and to recognize the value of seeking appropriate support when facing challenges related to substance use. By engaging young people at the school level, YLCGH-Nepal sought to strengthen preventive health awareness and contribute to the development of healthier and more resilient communities. Awareness is the first step to prevention—educating, engaging, and empowering young minds to choose a healthier future.
