School-Based Anthropometric Assessment and Visual Acuity Screening

On 11 August 2025, Young Leaders Collaboration for Global Health-Nepal (YLCGH-Nepal) conducted a School-Based Anthropometric Assessment and Visual Acuity Screening Program at Shree Shanta Secondary School, Pokhara, Kaski. The program focused on assessing students’ physical growth and nutritional status through height and weight measurements, while visual acuity screening was conducted to identify potential vision-related concerns at an early stage. These basic health assessments provided an opportunity to strengthen students’ awareness of their health and support timely identification of potential concerns. A key component of the initiative was teacher capacity building. Teachers were trained and supported to develop the knowledge and practical skills required to independently conduct basic anthropometric and visual health assessments in the future. This approach was designed to promote continuity and sustainability by enabling schools to continue monitoring students’ health beyond the immediate intervention. By combining health assessment with capacity building, the program aimed to strengthen school-level health systems and create a sustainable foundation for health monitoring and promotion within the education setting. The initiative reflects YLCGH-Nepal’s commitment to youth-centered and sustainable health promotion, empowering schools with both knowledge and skills to contribute to healthier students, informed educators, and stronger communities.
