Waste Management and Its Importance: Small Action, Big Change
Waste Management and Its Importance: Small Action, Big Change was a school-based awareness initiative organized by Young Leaders Collaboration for Global Health Nepal (YLCGH Nepal) on 7 August 2026 at Shree Bhanodaya Basic School, Mahalaxmi, for Grade 7 students. The session aimed to build students’ knowledge and awareness of responsible waste management and its significance for protecting health and the environment.
The session covered the meaning, types, and sources of waste; health and environmental impacts of improper waste disposal; proper waste management practices; and the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Through interactive learning and discussion, students were encouraged to understand how simple choices in their daily lives can contribute to cleaner schools, healthier communities, and a more sustainable environment.
The effectiveness of the session was assessed through pre-test and post-test evaluations. Among 22 registered students, 19 participated in the assessment, with the mean knowledge score increasing from 7.53/10 (75.3%) before the session to 7.68/10 (76.8%) after the session. The initiative reinforced the message that meaningful environmental change begins with small, consistent actions and empowered students to become responsible stewards of their surroundings.
